Streetfood? In an Asian City? Yes I did it… Water running down the streets, people everywhere and in the middle you can find outdoor food trucks with seating area, the Asian version of a fast food restaurant. And what I honestly not expected… you will be able to find a china town in an Asian city. The Petaling Street is one of the most touristic areas in Kuala Lumpur. The typical outdoor market for cheap and fake goods brings always tourist from all over the world to find Rulex, Brada and Luois Vitton bags. Yeah fakes are often not as good ad people think. But this is not what brought me to this street. It was the rumor i heard about the food. And i wanted to get some good Streetfood.
You can find fish, meat and vegetables stacked in an somehow cooled (maybe, well hopefully) cart. All goods are skewered with an colored wooded stick to identify the price. With up to 10 MYR the cost per stick goes up to 4 dollar. Take a plate and go shopping… You can decide if you want your sticks cooked or grilled. When you made your decision the chef will prepare it next to the food cart for you while you can enjoy a cooled Asian beer. I probably had the best shrimps ever from this food cart. I had shrimps, beef sticks and different marinated vegetables like squash and eggplants.
A lot of tourist probably do not have the trust in the hygienic system, but my experience of years in travel around the world showed me that as long it is cooked in front of you it is safe to eat. Make sure it is heated up all the way and you are safe. Beside that you will find the best food experience right in front of you!
